NSA to share findings from the 2025 sheep worrying by dogs farmer survey

1st April 2025

The NSA invites members of the press and other interested parties to join the launch of the 2025 NSA Sheep worrying by dogs awareness week on Monday 14th April at 11.30am.

The online meeting will share findings of NSA’s latest survey into the scale and ongoing impact of the issue of sheep worrying by dogs on farmers and their livestock.

The survey identifies the issue as an unnecessary blight on the UK sheep industry with most respondents having been affected by dogs worrying, chasing or physically attacking their livestock resulting in stress for both farmer and sheep, and often injuries and even death to animals.

The press launch of this year's survey results will include a discussion of the key headlines from NSA's research with opportunity for questions and answers with NSA Project Manager Nicola Noble and NSA Communications Manager Katie James.

Mrs Noble comments: “The NSA survey has once again revealed some sobering statistics, highlighting that sadly the issue of dog owners failing to be responsible when it comes to walking their pet through the countryside persists”.

As part of its ongoing work to support farmers affected by sheep worrying, NSA will also use the launch to introduce its new online case log available for all farmers to report incidents.

Communications Manager Katie James adds: “Although there is no formal obligation to log cases of sheep worrying to NSA or the Police it is something the Association has always encouraged.

“No matter how severe an incident is, or if there is any evidence to identify the dog and owner responsible, through information gathering on case numbers a clearer picture of the scale of this terrible issue can be formed which can help NSA and others make a stronger case for stronger legislation to be brought about and then enforced. NSA is confident it’s new, quick online case log will help with this.”

A full copy of the survey results will be available to download shortly after the press launch. The press launch kicks off a week of online activity by NSA sharing information on the topic in its annual campaign awareness week.
