Joint Statement from RWAS and NSA - The Future of the NSA Pavilion on the Royal Welsh Showground

We are pleased to announce the outcome of a recent meeting between the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) and the National Sheep Association (NSA) regarding the future of the NSA Pavilion on the Royal Welsh Showground. 

Both parties are proud that the NSA has had a prominent presence on the showground for many years, but the existing building is reaching a point of being no longer fit for purpose and requires significant investment and full replacement.

After thorough discussions and consideration of various options, and the renewal of NSA’s outline planning permission for the building, it has been decided that the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) will take the lead in replacing the building, with a view of creating a new Welsh Sheep Centre (working title). This has come about following a major master-planning study of the showground in which the RWAS has identified several key projects it wishes to progress. These include securing additional viewing space for the shearing competitions, as the current facility is becoming insufficient to accommodate the growing audience it attracts. In addition, there is a need for a permanent carcass hall for the Winter Fair and other complimentary developments.

This strategic approach has led RWAS to view the existing footprint of the NSA Pavilion, Shearing Centre and sheep buildings as a unified complex. Work is now underway to prepare initial drawings to create a modern, multi-purpose exhibition space that meets the needs of the showground’s evolving events.

We recognise that the current lease agreement for the Pavilion will need to come to an end. However, both RWAS and NSA are committed to working closely together over the coming months to explore partnership opportunities for this project, ensuring that the NSA maintains its prominent presence on the showground. 

We are also exploring the potential for incorporating additional features that would align with the interests and priorities of the sheep industry. These could include an educational element to inform the public about various aspects of the sheep sector, such as:

• The journey of wool from field to fabric
• Information on different sheep breeds
• The field-to-plate journey of lamb and other sheep products
• A training facility that could host workshops, seminars and demonstrations

Further work is needed to fully explore these opportunities, and the exact timelines for the redevelopment are still to be determined. However, we will provide more details in due course. In the meantime, we can confirm that there will be no impact for the Royal Welsh Show in 2025 and we will continue with business as usual for this coming year.

Dyfodol Pafiliwn y Gymdeithas Ddefaid Genedlaethol ar Faes y Sioe Frenhinol

Rydym yn falch o gyhoeddi canlyniad cyfarfod diweddar rhwng Cymdeithas Amaethyddol Frenhinol Cymru (CAFC) a'r Gymdeithas Ddefaid Genedlaethol (NSA) ynghylch dyfodol Pafiliwn y Gymdeithas Ddefaid Genedlaethol ar Faes y Sioe Frenhinol. 

Mae'r ddwy ochr yn falch fod yr NSA wedi bod â phresenoldeb amlwg ar Faes y Sioe ers blynyddoedd lawer, ond mae'r adeilad presennol yn dod i’r man lle nad yw’n addas at y diben mwyach. Mae angen buddsoddiad sylweddol a gosod adeilad newydd yn ei le.

Yn dilyn trafodaethau trwyadl ac wedi ystyried opsiynau gwahanol, ac adnewyddu caniatâd cynllunio amlinellol yr NSA ar gyfer yr adeilad, penderfynwyd y bydd Cymdeithas Amaethyddol Frenhinol Cymru (CAFC) yn cymryd yr awenau ar gyfer y gwaith o gyflwyno adeilad newydd, gyda'r bwriad o greu Canolfan Defaid Cymru newydd (teitl gweithio). Daeth hyn yn sgil astudiaeth uwch-gynllunio bwysig ar Faes y Sioe lle mae CAFC wedi nodi sawl prosiect allweddol y mae'n dymuno eu datblygu. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys sicrhau lle gwylio ychwanegol ar gyfer y cystadlaethau cneifio, gan ei bod yn cyrraedd sefyllfa lle nad yw'r cyfleuster presennol yn ddigonol ar gyfer y gynulleidfa gynyddol y mae'n ei denu. Yn ogystal, mae angen neuadd garcasau barhaol ar gyfer y Ffair Aeaf, a datblygiadau ategol eraill.

Yn sgil y dull strategol hwn, mae CAFC  wedi edrych ar ôl troed presennol Pafiliwn yr NSA, y Ganolfan Gneifio ac adeiladau’r defaid fel un cyfadeilad unedig. Mae’r gwaith nawr yn mynd rhagddo i baratoi darluniau cychwynnol, er mwyn creu man arddangos amlbwrpas, modern sy'n diwallu anghenion y digwyddiadau sy’n esblygu ar Faes y Sioe.

Rydym yn cydnabod y bydd angen i'r cytundeb les presennol ar gyfer y Pafiliwn ddod i ben. Fodd bynnag, mae CAFC a’r NSA wedi ymrwymo i gydweithio'n agos dros y misoedd nesaf i archwilio cyfleoedd partneriaeth ar gyfer y prosiect hwn, gan sicrhau bod yr NSA yn cynnal ei phresenoldeb amlwg ar Faes y Sioe.

Rydym hefyd yn archwilio'r potensial ar gyfer cynnwys nodweddion ychwanegol a fyddai'n cyd-fynd â buddiannau’r diwydiant defaid a’i flaenoriaethau. Gallai'r rhain gynnwys elfen addysgol i oleuo’r cyhoedd am agweddau gwahanol ar y sector defaid, er enghraifft:

• Taith gwlân o'r fferm i ffabrig
• Gwybodaeth am fridiau defaid gwahanol
• Y daith o’r fferm i’r fforc ar gyfer cig oen a chynhyrchion defaid eraill 
• Cyfleuster hyfforddi a allai gynnal gweithdai, seminarau ac arddangosiadau

Mae angen gwneud rhagor o waith i archwilio'r cyfleoedd hyn yn llawn, a bydd gofyn penderfynu ar yr union amserlen ar gyfer y gwaith ailddatblygu. Fodd bynnag, byddwn yn darparu rhagor o fanylion maes o law. Yn y cyfamser, gallwn gadarnhau na fydd unrhyw effaith ar y Sioe Frenhinol yn 2025 ac y byddwn yn parhau â busnes yn ôl yr arfer ar gyfer y flwyddyn sydd ar droed.

Edrychwn ymlaen at gydweithio ar y fenter bwysig hon ac rydym yn gwerthfawrogi'r gefnogaeth barhaus a'r berthynas weithio gadarnhaol rhwng CAFC a’r NSA.
