NSA conference to welcome top names from UK sheep industry this October

28th September 2021

Well known experts from the UK sheep sector are preparing to share their knowledge and experience at a free National Sheep Association (NSA) online conference this October.

Organised by NSA’s South East Region, the Sheep Health, Wealth and Production (SHWAP) conference will take place over three consecutive evenings starting on Tuesday 26th October and running until Thursday 28th October. The event has previously taken place successfully as a face to face conference, held at Surrey University Vet School, but with ongoing concerns due to Covid-19 the decision was taken to move the conference online for 2021 and organisers hope this format will allow a wider audience to benefit from the engaging session’s set to take place.

Respected industry experts including Dr Fiona Lovatt of
Flock Health Ltd, Professor Tommy Boland from University College, Dublin and Peter Lord from Dyson Farming, alongside several others will share their expertise to promote discussion and provide attendees with the opportunity to engage in a useful question and answer session.

NSA South East Chairman Yann Le Du says: “While NSA South East Region is disappointed not to be able to welcome attendees in person, with the opportunity to enjoy the usual post-conference meal, we hope that the virtual format will allow a wider, indeed even an international, audience to join us for what we expect to be three interesting evenings. We thank all speakers who will be joining us and all of our generous sponsors for the conference this year.”

SHWAP will begin with a webinar discussing health planning on Tuesday 26th October, followed by an evening speaking about managing mixed swards in arable rotations on Wednesday 27th October and the final session debating ideas of how to attract, retain and support the next generation of sheep farmers in the industry on Thursday 28th October. A full timetable of events including details on all of the speakers can be found by visiting nationalsheep.org.uk/SHWAP, where it is also possible to register for the event.

The SHWAP conference is kindly sponsored by major sponsors Elanco, Datamars, MSD and Rappa. With the evening session on Wednesday 26th October sponsored by Germinal.
