NSA South West Ram Sale Report

The 24th Annual NSA South West Ram Sale was held this Wednesday 15th August at Exeter Market.

Following on from the NSA's Builth early sale averages from last year were down but the clearance was quite respectable and of the three major breeds the Charollais having the highest clearance at 81%, Texels at 59% followed by the Suffolks at 55%. The sale as usual attracted buyers and sellers from as far as Wales and the Midland Counties.

The numerically smaller breeds generally had a good sale with the sale being topped by a Beltex Shearling Ram sold by Miss Louise Moorhouse Exeter for £1,050  to Mr R Bond of Blackawton, Totnes.

Texels had the next highest price at £987 for a shearling sold by Messrs R & R Jordan of Chagford and purchased by Mr J Eustice of Weybridge.

The top price Charollais Shearling Ram was £682.50 sold by Messrs C Hopper & Son to Mr M D Tewson of Newton Abbot.

Lleyns sold to £630 for a Shearling Ram sold by J Dufosee   of Warminster to Mr R Nicholls of Totnes.

In the Suffolk ring top price £567 for a Shearling consigned by Mr Derek J Farr of Hereford and purchased by Mr Gubb.

Berrichons went to £787.50 for a shearling sold by Mr J Yeo of Barnstaple to Mr S Poad of Saltash Cornwall.

Polled Dorset went to £525.00 and sold by Mr W L French to Mr Sisur of Okehampton.
