20th June 2025

The Scottish Region of the NSA is pleased to announce Aileen McFadzean as this year’s winner of the prestigious NSA Scotland Silver Salver award.

Aileen was presented with the award that recognises outstanding contribution to the Scottish sheep industry by Joanie Whitefield, Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, at last week’s record breaking NSA Highland Sheep event.

NSA Highland Sheep was the perfect occasion to celebrate the dedication of Aileen to the  Scottish sheep farming community with the presentation of the respected award.

NSA Scottish Region Chair Peter Myles comments: “Aileen has made a significant contribution to the Scottish sheep industry, she truly is a worthy winner of this year’s silver salver.

“Aileen joined the Scottish Blackface Sheep Breeders Association as Promotions Officer almost 30 years ago and has been instrumental in the success of the breed since then. Aside from this role Aileen has also been a valued member of the NSA Scotland committee taking on several key office holder positions, for which we are very grateful.”

Aileen from Woodhead of Mailer, Bridge of Earn, joined the Scottish Blackface Sheep Breeders Association in 1996. During her time in this role she has helped the breed society with key achievements such as the development of the Sainsbury's contract for Scottish Blackface lambs with processor Dunbia from 2007 to 2018. She has also been involved in the Scrapie plan, and crucial industry meetings on disease issues such as FMD and BSE. Aileen has been a past RHASS director and is Chair of Perth Show.

Aileen has sat on the NSA Scottish Region Committee since 1998 helping the Association by being a member of the NSA Board of Trustees from 2017 to 2022.

On winning the prestigious award Aileen says: “Thank you to NSA Scotland for the presentation of the Silver Salver it was a huge surprise and a huge honour! It’s all about team effort and I’m lucky and privileged to work with a great team of people throughout the whole industry. I’m so proud to be part of the tremendous sheep sector in Scotland.”
