NSA SCOTLAND COMMITTEE MEETS
23rd August 2024
On Monday 19th August NSA Scotland General Purposes and Policy Committee met in conjunction with a farm tour round Moredun Research Institute facilities. The agenda consisted of updates regarding the recent NSA Scotsheep and Royal Highland Show events alongside planning ahead for the upcoming Lamb For St Andrews Day Dinner, NSA award nominations and looking towards the future of NSA Scotland membership and activities. NSA Scottish Region Coordinator gave a policy update which included the recently launched NSA Sustainability report, bluetongue, schmallenberg, vaccine supply issues, ticks and tick borne diseases, Scottish Government licensing reviews, lynx reintroduction progress, and future agricultural support changes.
Following the farm tour which was kindly guided by Thomas Tzelos, Stephen Anderson and Sharon Brown, attendees engaged in an open dialogue with scientists Lee Innes and David Longbottom on the processes of turning research into mass market options for farmers alongside a brainstorm of future animal health and welfare solutions regarding ticks, vaccines and supply chain procedures. NSA Scotland were extremely appreciative for the opportunity to engage with Moredun and use some of their valuable time to discuss the current sheep industry difficulties and brainstorm for future.
