9th April 2025
Two new and exciting opportunities have arisen within the Scottish Region of the National Sheep Association (NSA) for individuals looking for a new challenge that will help make a positive contribution to the Scottish sheep industry.
The two job vacancies are for new positions, available following a restructure of the NSA Scottish Region. Applications are now invited for the roles of NSA Scottish Region Policy Officer, and NSA Scottish Region Activities Officer.
The first position of Policy Officer is a fantastic opportunity for someone to make a real impact on the Scottish agricultural landscape and provide a voice for Scottish sheep farmers. The role will take on vital policy work, representing NSA at stakeholder meetings, driving policy discussions, and ensuring the views of members are heard at the highest level.
The position will suit a skilled communicator with a strong interest in and knowledge of agricultural policy in Scotland. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and organised individual with the ability to manage their time effectively to meet deadlines.
The successful application will be given a permanent, home-based contract on 3.5 days a week with regular travel within Scotland and occasional travel further afield.
A further opportunity is also open for a dynamic and enthusiastic Activities Officer to join the team. This is a chance for the successful candidate to shape a new role within NSA Scottish Region and unleash their creativity to develop activities and events that support and celebrate the Scottish sheep farming community.
The successful applicant will be given an initial 12-month temporary contract, with the view to it becoming a permanent contract. The home-based role offers a flexible work arrangement of either three or four days a week, with regular travel within Scotland.
This exciting role will include the development and delivery of a range of events, including NSA Scot Sheep, NSA Highland Sheep, the NSA Scottish Region at the Royal Highland Show, the annual Lamb for St Andrew’s Day dinner, biennial NSA Next Generation Shepherd competition, farm walks and evening meetings. Excellent marketing and communication skills will be required to manage this as well as the NSA Scottish Region website and social media accounts, and to organise sponsorship and manage budgets for events of all sizes.
The successful candidate will be motivated, creative and organised and have proven experience in organising industry events of all sizes, including attracting sponsorship and managing budgets.
