Rowan Gear 21 Mid-Glamorgan
The youngest member of the group, Rowan already brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm. Having recently spent four months in New Zealand working on a tailing gang, he has returned with fresh ideas and a global perspective. His energy, confidence and eagerness to learn stood out during the interview process, and he is keen to use the experience to benefit both his own system and the wider sheep industry. He has spent four years working on a 3500 acre mixed farm and has recently been offered the chance to take on the sheep contract. He says: “I want to bring new perspectives home, expand my system and share knowledge that helps future-proof the sheep sector in Wales and the UK.”

This time of year can remind us how lucky we are to live this lifestyle. Waking up early to check the stock before the heat of the day brings a positive start to the day when they look so well in the early light.
With all of our lambs now weaned and in a uniform group, it’s a real sight when checking them. With the ewes drying off well and tups getting ready for the next breeding season, there is some buzz to see what next year brings.
NSA Next Generation Ambassador programme is such a unique networking platform. Although we are all in the same industry, what we do daily is different from diverse systems all over the UK.
It is refreshing to meet up with fellow ambassadors to discuss what we have experienced at home and how we have approached challenges. Having a trusted group to exchange knowledge is such an important part of farming.
The insights to the industry we have gained so far have given me a real incentive to think outside the box. Being open minded and looking towards the future is always a hot subject discussed between the ambassadors.
I’m thoroughly excited to meet up with other members in the wider NSA community, to see what challenges and successes other people in the industry have experienced.
