After narrowly missing out on the ambassador programme in 2024, Georgie returned this year with renewed determination, and it paid off. Over the last two years she has steadily built her flock while sharing a tenancy with a beef farmer demonstrating her commitment and resilience. Her thoughtful approach to sustainability and animal welfare impressed the panel, as did her clear long-term vision for her business.
Georgie looks forward to being exposed to different approaches to sheep farming, with both advantages and disadvantages explained. She comments: “I want to farm sustainably with the highest approach to animal welfare, alongside people who share the same passion for sheep.”

I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the ambassador programme and I can’t believe we are now halfway through already. It has been an excellent experience meeting the other ambassadors from across the UK whom I hope will become lifelong friends.
I’ve implemented some of the things I’ve learnt from the sessions like the advice from Sheep vet, Phillipa Page, on procedures to take when bringing new stock to the farm. I found it fascinating to see behind the scenes at Harper feeds and Shearwell Data. Seeing the whole process along with the machines amazed me.
At home the sheep have been sheared and the hay has been gathered ready for winter. I am now looking forward to weaning and I’m weighing the lambs regularly to monitor growth. I have also started to record as much data as possible. I tagged the lambs within the first 72 hours of birth to know who their mum’s are and if there are any issues at birth to weaning. Tricky lambing, fly strike, lameness and who’s growing well is all on a spreadsheet. Using the FETF grant I am going to get a stick recorder to make recording easier. In early Autumn the plan is to buy in Cheviot and Herdwick ewes.
