Royal Welsh Show

NSA staff and officeholders have been busy this week at the Royal Welsh Show, where the new Sheep Village 'Cynefin' was on display on the site of the now dismantled NSA pavilion. 

This new presence felt refreshing and welcoming, and attracted a good throughput of visitors, both from within the industry and the general public interested in learning more about the role of sheep and sheep farming in the wider environment. 

Phil comments: "Our new presence at the Royal Welsh felt very successful and we have thoughts as to how we further improve things in partnership with the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society for next year. We had some great talks and discussions including topics of wool innovation, sheep worrying by dogs and the issues of wildfires. Other hot topics covered were dealing with the drought and heat conditions, the new SFS scheme in Wales, sheep number trends in Wales and Bluetongue (which is just starting to rear its head again - see below). It was great to welcome new Cabinet Secretary Llyr Gruffydd and Chief Veterinary Officer Richard Irvine onto the stand and to receive HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh as she made a tour of the new sheep village. 

“NSA Vice President Margaret Dalton took part in the opening ceremony of the Cynefin village and all in all the event felt like a huge success and we look forward to firming up plans for next year.”
