NSA Scottish Region celebrates lamb at St Andrews Day dinner
NSA Scottish Region Policy Officer, Faye Bryce attended the Lamb for St Andrew’s Dinner last weekend, an event celebrating lamb and the remarkable work being carried out in the sheep sector.
A key highlight was an update from the Moredun Foundation on progress toward a Louping Ill vaccine. Thanks to generous donations, the vaccine is moving through production stages, but further support is needed to ensure it reaches the market. This development is significant for sheep farmers, as Louping Ill can cause severe losses in affected flocks and a vaccine will provide vital protection and peace of mind.
The evening also featured two engaging speakers, Finlay McIntyre, who shared the story of the sheep farmer through his own experiences and those of generations before him, reinforcing that farming is a lifelong vocation rooted in heritage and knowledge transfer. Following was Martin Kennedy, who humorously spoke “as the lamb,” reminding us of the care and respect farmers provide throughout the animal’s life and beyond.
Faye says: “It was an insightful and uplifting evening to see first-hand the strong sense of pride in our sheep farming sector and the progress being made on disease prevention. A Louping Ill vaccine will be a game-changer for flock health and farm resilience.”
