NSA Next Generation shearing workshop, Northern
Date: 23rd September 2025
Time: 10.30 am – 2 pm
Location: Home Farm, Richmond, North Yorkshire
On Tuesday (23rd September), NSA and British Wool joined together for an Introduction to shearing workshop at Home Farm, Richmond, kindly hosted by Anna Pennell.
The day started with an overview of why we shear sheep and the industry guidance on welfare standards and biosecurity. British Wool shearing instructor Richard Schofield then gave a practical demonstration followed by attendees having a go themselves. This was followed by a discussion on the wool grading process by Ian Brooksbank, British Wool.
NSA Next Generation event organiser, Anna Wilson says “It was wonderful to see everyone have a go, regardless of their previous experience. These small group workshops enable attendees to receive tailored advice and one-to-one tuition. The wool grading was an eye opener. It is a very complex process that can take seconds in the depot by skilled graders.”
The event demonstrated the importance of providing young farmers with accessible, practical guidance to support them in managing sustainable farming practices.
NSA Next Generation workshops are designed to equip future farmers with the skills and knowledge they need to progress in the industry.
NSA is now looking forward to the following shearing workshop taking place next week in the south east, in partnership with British Wool.
