Date: 9th May 2026
Time: 9am start
Location: Nottinghamshire County Show, Newark Showground, Lincoln Road, Winthorpe, Newark, NG24 2NY
On Saturday 9th May, NSA Central Region held their Shepherd Competition at the Nottinghamshire County Show, bringing together a fantastic group of young farmers for a day focused on sheep farming skills, learning and friendly competition.
The event showcased a wide range of practical tasks, giving competitors the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities while also learning from one another throughout the day. It was brilliant to see such enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork from everyone involved, with competitors supporting one another and making the most of the experience.
Congratulations to all who took part, with some excellent performances across the competition. Chloe Nadin was crowned overall winner, followed by Hannah Grindey in second place. Samantha Brown secured third place, while 16-year-old Luke Hadfield achieved fourth place and was also recognised as the highest placed competitor under 21 years of age.
The standard of competition throughout the day was incredibly high and reflected the dedication and passion these young farmers have for the industry.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped bring the event together, particularly James Bickerton for his unrivalled enthusiasm and dedication, and Ed Brant for fetching sheep and taking a day away from lambing to support the competition.
We are also extremely grateful to all of our sponsors for their valued support, and to the hosts, Nottinghamshire County Show, for providing such an excellent venue and helping create a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day. Holding the competition within the Show also gave members of the public a wonderful opportunity to engage with the event, with many visitors stopping by to ask questions and learn more about sheep farming and the wider industry.
