NSA exhibits at Cereals for the first time
NSA attended Cereals this week at Diddly Squat Farm, Oxfordshire.
The event saw a renewed focus on mixed farming with the introduction of a dedicated Livestock Zone this year; a first for the event. The aim of NSA attending was to highlight the benefits of integrating sheep into a livestock system in terms of soil health improvements, controlling blackgrass, reductions in arable inputs and increased productivity.
The stand had a good level of interest on both days with good conversations on how to introduce sheep into arable systems, different breed benefits and partnerships between arable and sheep farmers via the NSA Graziers List.
NSA Project Manager Abby Cook, comments: “It was great to have so much interest in how sheep can benefit arable systems, we spoke about understanding the impact continuous cropping can have on soils and the need to improve soil structure and biology to create a more sustainable system long term. There seems to be a real mindset shift towards the benefits livestock can bring to arable and how farmers can work together to support both arable and sheep enterprises. I believe this presents a lot of opportunities for sheep farmers going forwards and it was fantastic to showcase this at Cereals event.”
