Melton Midlands Sheep Fair incorporating the NSA Eastern Region Ram Sale
Date: 19th September 2025
Location: Melton Mowbray Market, Scalford Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE13 1JY
The 19th September was a day like no other selling tups at the fifth Melton Midlands sheep fair and NSA Ram Sale. One of the biggest entries ever with 231 tups catalogued. A tremendous turn of quality, a real credit to all involved with shearling rams averaging 930gns and ram lambs averaging 645gns. A record-breaking day with a 93.5% clearance rate.
A big thank you to the judge Rob Mason who had the very difficult job of splitting the best from the rest. Winning the Melton Borough Trophy for the overall best pen of four rams went the way of the shearling ram champions from George Hoggard for his fabulous pen of Charollais.
Topping this breed section was man of the moment George Hoggard seeing the pick of his pen all the way to 1450gns, others from this home saw 1420gns with two others both seeing 1400gns.
The Texels saw Phil Weaver and the Empire flock running riot, with his eight pedigree shearling tups average 1770gns. Topping the day was lot 187 seeing 2000gns.
A fantastic show of tups and very well supported by the ringside power too. With the sale ring often five deep, there was plenty of buying power to mop up the tups on offer. A pleasure to sell tups from beginning to end with a trade that stuck all day.
Once again we would like to thank everyone for their support at the sale and we look forward to seeing you all for a bigger better sale next year.
