Time: 10am

Location: Colt Park Farm Morpeth, NE61 4PG

We are excited to welcome you to a day with the NSA Northern Region at R & J Oglesby’s farm in Northumberland.

The day will focus on what makes your business sustainable, exploring practical solutions and how you can implement them within your own enterprise.

Attendees will benefit from a mix of expert talks, interactive discussion, and a farm tour in the afternoon.

NSA members and anyone with an interest in sheep are warmly invited to attend this Northern Region meeting.

The schedule follows:

10.00am – Arrival and refreshments

10.15am – Welcome and short introduction to NSA Northern Region

10.30am – Session 1

  • Joe Henry – Previous president of the Sheep Veterinary Society
Improving farm profitability by focusing on production, efficiency and animal welfare. Joe’s session will encourage debate on topics such as grazing systems, lambing outside, soil health and adapting breeds to suit different systems.
  • Sara Robson-Ingham - MSD
An evidence-based approach to flock vaccination, following the NOAH guidelines. This session will look at choosing the right products, scheduling vaccinations to maximise protection, tackling lameness, and using diagnostics effectively to support productivity.

11.35am – Session 2

  • AHDB - Laura Smith
Drawing on her experience working with farmers across the North East, Laura will ask what makes a top-performing farm? Do the expected drivers of profit really make the difference, or are there other factors at play?
  • Angus & Duncan Nelless - AHDB Benchmarking group
A look at their farming system across 900 ha in Northumberland. Their organic farms run 1,700 Lleyn ewes, 500 ewe lambs and 260 Angus cattle, with a strong focus on rotational grazing, grass and forage-based systems, and clover leys. They will share how they achieve high production from a low-input system, including bale grazing, deferred grazing, and grass wintering.

12.30pm – Lunch (please register to ensure adequate catering)

1.15pm onwards – Farm Tour
