NSA Next Generation events return to encourage and support future UK sheep farmers

27th October 2021

Young people with an enthusiasm for the UK sheep sector are invited to join two free winter conferences and workshops next month, held as part of the National Sheep Association (NSA) Next Generation project.

Having previously held successful conferences at many livestock markets across the UK this will be the first time NSA Next Generation has had the opportunity to host an event specifically for the future of the UK sheep industry since 2019. It is hoped the opportunity to hear from industry experts, fellow young sheep farmers and the chance to network and meet lots of like minded young farmers will appeal to a large audience.

This year the conferences will take place on two consecutive Fridays; Friday 12th November at Stirling Livestock Auction and on Friday 19th November at Shrewsbury Auction Centre. With one of the conferences moving over the border into Scotland for the first time it is hoped young sheep farmers will be able to attend an event that may have previously been too far in distance to travel to.

Helping to coordinate the conferences, NSA Communications Officer Katie James, says: “NSA Next Generation events aim to cater for everyone with a passion for sheep farming, from new entrants to those looking at taking on more responsibility within a long-established business as well as anyone who is simply keen to learn more about sheep farming.

“These events will provide a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the options out there for young people considering a career in sheep farming or looking to make their mark on an existing business.”

Informal and practical workshops will follow a welcome and talk from NSA representatives, each run by an industry professional. Workshops will offer a range of topics to help attendees gain the best advice specific to their situation and career aims. Joining NSA to offer workshops will be experts from organisations such as British Wool, MSD Animal Health, host auctions – United Auctions and Halls, and more.

Both events are free to attend and include a hot lunch, kindly provided by British Wool. Details of the conferences along with a booking form for both events can be found now on the NSA Next Generation website at www.nsanextgeneration.org.uk.
