Herefordshire sheep farmer takes on new role in NSA Marches Region

3rd February 2022

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is pleased to announce the election of Herefordshire sheep farmer Richard Vines, as its new NSA Marches Region Chairman.

Richard, from near Ross on Wye, was elected at the recent NSA Marches Region Annual Members Meeting (ARMM). He replaces outgoing Chairman Antony Spencer from Warwickshire, who remains an active committee member in the region, also sitting on the NSA English and Policy and Technical Committees.

Richard takes on the new role having previously served
as Vice Chairman for the regional committee and representing the region, which includes the counties of Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire, on the NSA English Committee.

Alongside his family, Richard farms a combination of 320 sheep, a small herd of pedigree Dexter cattle and growing cattle. The farm also produces forage – hay, silage and straw, for sale to other farmers. He is well known as a breeder of Meatlinc rams, supplying sheep farms with the terminal sire ram breed across Central and Southern England.

Speaking of his new appointment, Richard says: “I’m looking forward to my term as NSA Marches Region Chairman, continuing the great work of previous Chairman Antony Spencer. The region is already very active and I hope to build on this by encouraging more younger members to join us and providing our members with a very good reason to join us at meetings. We have several interesting meetings and events lined up for the year ahead and would really welcome sheep farmers from our region to join us at these.”
