Prestigious Butchery Awards at NSA Sheep 2012

4th May 2012

Two prestigious butchery awards will be made at NSA Sheep 2012, the industry’s biennial event to be staged by the National Sheep Association at the Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern on Wednesday 4 July.

Called the Best Farm Shop Award and the Best English Farm Shop Award, the initiatives have been designed by the NSA working with EBLEX to test the skills of farm shop owners selling lamb, together with those of their managers or butchers.

Open to entrants located throughout the UK, each will be offered one hour, in front of an audience of event visitors, in which to prepare and display a variety of cuts from a whole dressed lamb carcase.

In addition, they will be required to make up and cook lamb burgers. The judges will be looking for entrants demonstrating the best set of butchery skills, together with innovation and appealing presentation.

“We are pleased to stage these two awards to provide real reward and recognition for farm shop owners and their staff from throughout the UK who offer their customers quality lamb which is presented both traditionally and in the form of new and innovative cuts,” says NSA Sheep 2012 organiser, Helen Davies. “Watching the butchers at work will also provide an interesting and genuine attraction for visitors.”
