NSA Cymru/Wales regional farm walk

Date: 14th September 2021

Time: 3pm

Location: Cwm Farm, Talgarth, Brecon, LD3 0EE

On Tuesday 14th September, NSA Cymru held a farm walk at Cwm Farm, on behalf of Jeff Gwilliam and Family.

NSA Cymru recieved an extensive toour of Cwm Farm. Jeff is the fifth generation of his family to farm the 300 acre grass hill farm, with ground lying some 600-1200ft above sea level. In Addition the Gwilliam Family have grazing rights on the Black mountains running up to 2,500ft.

The Gwilliam Family stock 1,000 Welsh x Cheviot ewes which run on the hill until they are four to five years old and go back to Welsh and South Country Cheviot rams to produce replacements. They then move on to lower ground and are put to Charolais and Charmoise rams to produce early fat lambs which are sold through Talgarth Market.

Jeff also has a herd of 20 Limousin x Suckler cows which are put to his Limousin bull, calving outdoors through the summer, and sold through Talybont on Usk market at 12 to 15 months

Jeff has been an active member of the NSA for some ten years and is enthusiastically involved in the Black Mountains Land Use Partnership.
