NSA Northern Region’s ARMM took place last night (Thursday) with several changes to officeholder positions.

Viv Lewis from Penrith, Cumbria was elected as regional Chairman, taking on the role from outgoing Chairman Thomas Carrick.

Ted Ogden, who has served as regional Treasurer for several years now takes on the Vice Chairman position as well.

John Geldard, who has served as Trustee for the past six years steps down with Alan Alderson taking the regional seat on the NSA Board.

NSA Northern Region Manager Chris Adamson comments: “Holding our ARMM in person for the first time in two years it was nice to see familiar faces again and to have a face to face discussion. The meeting was also available online and the hybrid meeting ran very well. Although I haven’t been in the role for long I would like to thank Thomas for his support since I took the position and for his dedication to NSA as he steps down. I am now looking forward to working with both Viv and Ted.”

Once the formalities were complete Phil Stocker gave an update on recent NSA policy work. This was followed by Defra’s Catherine Boyd who gave a presentation on ELMS, answering questions thoughtfully and dispelling some anxieties surrounding the scheme from several members.

The meeting is available to watch online. Please click here to view.

Also at the meeting NSA acknowledged the valuable contribution made to the livestock sector by young sheep and beef farmer Hannah Brown.

Hannah, who very sadly passed away in 2021, was named as the posthumous recipient of the inaugural NSA Northern Region Geoff Lawn Award presented at the recent meeting.

Hannah, originally from Leyburn, North Yorkshire, lived in Appleby, Cumbria with fiancé Ben and daughter Millie. She was well known as a regular face in livestock show rings, exhibiting both sheep and cattle, across the UK and was a committed supporter of the NSA North Sheep event.

On receiving the award in her memory Hannah’s parents Martin and Val Brown paid tribute to their daughter saying: “We are honoured to accept this award on Hannah’s behalf. She would be very proud to receive it. Thank you very much.

“Hannah very much enjoyed her involvement with NSA North Sheep and working with the NSA Northern region. It has been a difficult time for us but we are proud to have raised £50,000 for sepsis awareness in Hannah’s memory.”
