NSA Eastern Region Ram Sale (September)

The top pen of rams at the Annual NSA Eastern Region sale held at Melton Mowbray market, was 4 Charollais shearling rams from regular vendor, Mr Alan Thomas from Lutterworth in Leicestershire.  Taking his top price ram at 920gns was Bothwell Farms in Rutland.  The remaining three rams all sold for 810 gns to W T Carr & Sons, Loughborough.

Also topping the sale at 920 gns was a Beltex shearling ram from J F Sharp & Son, Easton, Lincolnshire.  Taking this one and the other Beltex from Mr Sharp at 910 gns was D & A E Allen & Son from Coston in Leicestershire.  

Well-fleshed tups sold well throughout the day with Texel and Charollais much in demand.  Highest priced Texel ram was from G C Baker at 840 gns which sold to J Richardson & Sons, Southwick.  R R & M Lawrence had a strong pen of Texel shearlings which achieved top bids of 690 gns twice, 680 gns and 650 gns. 

John Maxwell from Fordham in Cambridgeshire also was in the high prices with a bid of 760 gns for his Charollais shearling ram which was knocked down to T R Stokes from Melton Mowbray.  

Leading the Suffolk section was the champion pen of rams from local breeders, D & J Inman.  Their top price was 550 gns for a shearling tup which was bought by Burton Farms Ltd, Rempstone. 

The Mayor of Melton Mowbray presented the prizes and the organisers thanked Melton Mowbray Borough Council for their continued support of this sale.
